The conclusion

Reinforce the message by:

1. paraphrasing the thesis
2. using a concluding strategy or ending with a quote
3. smiling for two seconds

If this is a persuasive speech:

• Revisit a counterclaim if one was addressed earlier
• Include a call to action

The “circle” strategy:

1. Tell a story in the body of the speech, but don’t give the ending
2. Give the ending in the conclusion

Example:

In body: “My friend that I haven’t spoken to for years; I was waiting for her to pick up the phone.”

In the conclusion: “Remember my friend from earlier, well here’s what happened..”
