Team development

Team development is about taking the team you have and making them better.

A project leader:

  • provides training opportunities and encourages exploration and improvement
  • expresses confidence in each team member’s abilities to solve problems
  • encourages autonomy and trust in a team member’s own judgement

The tuchman model

  1. Forming
  2. Storming
  3. Norming
  4. Performing
  5. Ajourning / Mourning

Waterfall vs. agile

Waterfall:

  • Command-and-control
  • Guide or coach through the stages
  • Use team-building exercises

Agile:

  • Team is self-organizing and needs to grow itself
  • Stand back, see where they are as a team first
  • Coach as a team or individually
  • Need to go through the stages quicker
