Learning styles
Learning styles are a myth
It turns out, all learners benefit from multimodal teaching methods. Do not try to focus on a particular style per learner.
According to Pashler et. al. (2008), “…there is no adequate evidence base to justify incorporating learning-styles into general educational practice.”
Types
There are four types of learning styles:
- Visual
- Aural
- Read/Write
- Kinesthetic
Tips
- Most people are multimodal learners.
- Audience analysis can determine which types to focus on.
- Evidence-based teaching
Strategies
| Type | Strategy |
|---|---|
| Visual | Use pictures, charts, tables, or videos. |
| Aural | Use colourful and concrete language, strong examples, stories. |
| Read/Write | Use text-based slides (but Keep the Design Simple). |
| Kinesthetic | Use real-life demonstrations and models |
